Relationships are a key part of our experiences as human beings, whether these relationships are intimate, romantic, parent and child or friendship, there can be times when breakdowns in the relationship occur, which can lead to us pulling away from one another, which is when relationship therapy can be supportive in finding a healthy way forward which works for you.
Relationship Therapy, sometimes known as couples counselling or marriage counselling or relationship counselling, supports relationships in resolving issues. We have all experienced conflict or disagreement in relationships, loss of attraction, or the fun may have disappeared and sometimes this has a happy outcome, other times it can result in the end of the relationship. When this happens our health and wellbeing can be affected and we can experience a variety of symptoms from depression to loss of libido. By exploring relationship therapy we can support you in your relationship to facilitate change and resolve the existing issues by helping you to communicate effectively and reach a healthy outcome.
What relationship therapy can offer you is a safe space where we have no preconceived ideas about who you are as individuals and as a couple/partnership. As we work together you may find ways of overcoming your relationship issues, decide that it's time to part ways. Relationship therapy will offer you the space to grow and to decide what you would like the future to look like for you. It shouldn't be seen as a "last resort" instead it can be a space within which you check in with one another in a healthy way to keep the relationship healthy, communication flowing, address issues of conflict and any underlying concerns that you might have. It allows you to gain a deeper understanding of one another, recognise one another's emotional needs, negotiate change in the dynamics of the relationship, support one another through bereavement, loss of employment, ill health etc.
